Saw Boss (Wheeled Warriors) Review
Saw Boss
Wheeled Warriors (Mattel)Wheeled Warriors was wonderfully weird. A young hero, a wizard, Basically Han Solo, a human/plant hybrid, and a dwarfish warforged pilot crazy vehicles in their quest to defeat a bunch of evil plant monsters that produce cyber-plant war machines. The 80s!
Saw Boss, here, is one such machine. Technically, it's one of the type produced by Saw Boss, but they all seem to be able to project their consciousness into any given unit, so it counts.
The general layout for this line is a unique body and main weapon, with the wheels, axles, and additional weapons interchangeable between them all. Saw Boss is basically a smooth techno-dragon head in jet black and gold chrome. The axle bit is a trike, with two pairs of wheels and a couple triangular tank treads. Nominal placement is treads up front, and a "sunburst" wheel in back. The signature weapon here is, of course, a glorious golden circular saw, clutched in a vine that plugs in up top. Said vine swivels at the base and has a balljoint just behind the fork, but said balljoint is augmented by additional vines that prevent sidelong movement, but also keep it from drooping.
Additional weapons are a large metallic silver cannon, brown rocket, reddish triple-laser, and chrome radar array. There are 2 hardpoints on the chassis, one on the rear axle, and one on the cannon itself. Go nuts.
Finally, the chassis hinges up to reveal the cockpit. The human side of the conflict made do with plain brown jumpsuits and generic sculpts, but the Monster Minds get, well monster brains. Peanut-sized lumps of brain matter, reclining in the seat and sporting some kind of life support apparatus topped off with angry little goggles. They're cast in a lovely pea green rubber, and while they're quite nice to look at, they don't have much to hold them in place. I suggest poster putty.
These things are real eye-catchers, and genuinely fun to customize. And you can't say it wasn't unique. I'd probably dig it even more if I had extra weapons.
