Write a Review link for that item. Back to the Future (Neca) (Neca)While NECA's Back to the Future line started off strong, it's been dying down as of late. We only got two figures last year, but last year also saw a limited pre-order for a NECA Store-exclusive accessory set. I went ahead and ordered it, cause why not? The sets are shipping now, earlier than the initial intended Q3 2023 release. NECA's accessory sets tend to be in windowless boxes, but with this specific set, it's packaged in the Ultimate-style box with opening flap. Said flap depicts the flux capacitor (I believe), and there are shots on the inside and back of the inclusions in use. There's some tape and a single plastic strip, and it's all easy to remove and get open. The main draw of the set is scientist's best friend: Einstein. Standing - or sitting in this case - a smidge over 3" tall, Einstein has a nice furry texture, and while it can be hard to translate real-life animals into plastic at times, I feel NECA did a great job with him. The paint is nice, though there is some white bleed on the left eye. He also moves more than I expected, with ball-joints at the head and neck, a hinged jaw, and a swivel tail. He can't do much, but you can get him to look around pretty well. The stopwatch hanging around his neck can be removed with some effort. A few new interchangeable parts for previous releases are included here, such as a new head for 1955 Doc with the "brainwave scanner," even though that damn thing doesn't work at all. The expression is copied from one of the base figure's heads, but the hair is resculpted so the scanner can fit over it, and the head fits on the ball with no hassle. The scanner itself looks great, with pretty solid paint work and a shiny finish. There's also two extra right hands, a Vulcan salute for Tales from Space Marty, and a gripping hand for Hazmat Doc. Speaking of which, there's a hood for the suit to go with him, and it simply slides on over his head. Aside from all that stuff, there's a good handful of extras from parts 1 and 2. The plutonium case is another big inclusion, opening up to reveal its contents. One of the little things of plutonium can be removed, as is the red thing that goes inside it. While it has a handle, it's sculpted as part of the case, so it can't flip up so someone can hold it. The "incognito kit" is pretty cool, reading "NECA FOOTWEAR" on the sliding panels, and the outfit inside can be removed. There's also two shoes that fit inside it, but I'm not sure if they can pop onto any Marty figure (they do have stand peg holes…). We also get two license plates, one regular and one burned, and a walkie talkie. Last but not least, there's three paper accessories: Marty's lifesaving note to Doc and a phone book page from Part 1, and the "YOU'RE FIRED!" fax from Part 2. All three look pretty great and screen-accurate, and the new hand for Hazmat Doc allows him to hold any of them, specifically the note. While NECA has been putting Back to the Future on the back-burner as of late, they deserve props for this set. Giving us much-needed things such as Einstein and the plutonium case, as well as plenty of other cool extras. While being a NECA Store-only release means eBay is your only shot for it now, chances are NECA could do another round of pre-orders if demand is high enough. - 3/9/23  by RMaster007 |
