Klingon (Star Trek - Borg Assimilation) Review
Klingon
Star Trek - Borg Assimilation (Diamond Select)Diamond Select made quite a few ST toys in the 7" scale, and they were all pretty impressive. Very show-accurate. But the kickoff series consisted of totally speculative designs, a trio of non-human Borg. The Cardassian and Hirogen are impressive, but today we have a look at the Klingon.
Plying the skills picked up by their work on the rotocast Alien Combat series, our friends at Art Asylum cranked out some wonderful work. The sculpt is absolutely blanketed with wires and weathered armor. Tubes snake in and out here and there. The paint is without flaw, if pretty extreme compared to the on-screen black sweaters and computer components. The facial hair, starkly painted eye, and skin tone are startlingly reminiscent of AA's 18" Rob Zombie, for whatever reason.
Articulation comes in at a respectable 13 points, including 3 ball joints and a hinged claw. The tubes do limit range in a few places, but they're Borg. Not very dynamic posers. It's enough for a few menacing poses, and the neck joint has a particularly good tilt range.
I don't normally comment on packaging, but not only did they model it after a Borg...recharging station? Cloister? Cubby? The place they hang out when not needed. Anyway, it's got plenty of windows for you MOC weirdos to admire the figure from all angles.
The only accessory is the usual Art Asylum coin, although there was also a sheet of 2 tiny stickers with nowhere to go on the figure. They're too large for any appropriately shaped spot. Ignore them.
In the end, I highly recommend AA's products. Not only do they put their all into everything they do, they took to crediting their sculptors and painters on the packaging as soon as they were big enough to make such decisions, which is more than most companies will ever do. So hats off to Patrick Pigott, Peter Kelly and Tina Wang. As for you, you like Borg? Or crazy robots in general? Find these. Find them all.
