Clayface DC Super Heroes (Mattel) - Series 8 Rated 4.50 stars by Henchmen4Hire Clayface! Never thought you’d see this day, eh? Mattel is giving us what we want, basic figures with no stupid gimmicky suits, though I think they’re saving those for later, heh. I love the old Batman cartoons, along with the character and city designs, so Clayface is a welcome blast form the past. He’s a hideously nostalgic piece and is even creepier than I remembered him to be. It looks like he should be on Ghostbusters, not Batman movies!
Our muddy puddle of preciousness is 7 inches tall. Clayface is top-heavy but the stumpy legs do a great job of keeping him up. I’ve got mixed feelings about this figure. I dig that the arms are rubberized and extremely flexible, but there a lot of different browns on him because different parts are made of different materials, I guess we can pass...[See More]
Batman (Classic Detective) DC Universe Classics (Mattel) - Wave 1 Rated 5.00 stars by Henchmen4Hire Finally we get a Batman perfect for making a 90’s Animated Series version. I loved those cartoons and this figure is almost an exact copy of that design, yellow bat-symbol, pod-belt, and all. I was surprised Mattel didn’t make a variant black version to save us the trouble of painting it (this version has blue gloves/boots/cape), maybe they’ll release it later on like the first Batman of this long series.
Bruce stands under 6.5 inches tall, the legs are perfectly straight, yes! One major problem fixed from the old series. Also, there are now peg-holes in the feet, score again! The cape is lightly glued-on but is easily removable. When you take it off, the neck still looks normal, there’s no horrible gap like from previous cowls and capes. The gloves and boots are smooth, no detail like...[See More]
Cyborg Superman DC Super Heroes (Mattel) - Series 6 Rated 4.00 stars by Henchmen4Hire Cyborg Superman is a fun character. He hates Superman, is a gloomy gus, and participated in the near-destruction of all reality after helping create Parallax, cool. Recently he came back with some yellow power rings and earned a much wanted death, but come on, this guy is cursed, he'll be back as a toaster or something in a few months, trying to strangle someone with his cord.
If he could stand straight, Hank here would be just under 6.5 inches tall, with legs splayed, he's like 6.2, still about the right size. The only difference between this figure and the normal Superman figure (go read that review too ;) ) is the added sculpted cybernetic bits. The cyber-parts are of course well-sculpted though, very clean lines with silver (not chrome) paint. I don't understand what all those little...[See More]
Harley Quinn DC Universe Classics (Mattel) - Wave 2 Rated 4.90 stars by Henchmen4Hire There hasn't been a Harley Quinn figure made that I didn't like, and I'm miffed about not being able to get her from the Hush series. I'd like to put her head on this DCSH Quinn because I love the sculpt on it, the downward tassels look a lot less demonic than the ones on this DCSH Harley. Seriously, this figure looks crazy, which is...good? Yes, good!
Harl stands about 6 inches, which is taller than the DCSH Joker, but that's because that Joker is short, everyone is taller than him. The details, however small, are accurate and well-executed. The scrunchy things at the wrists are finely sculpted and the pixie-boots look like they could poke an eye out @_@ It bothers me that only the hands turn, and not the scrunchy things, I'm not sure why, I guess it's just a customizer thing. both...[See More]
Great review. I''m planning on buying a few DC characters. I''ve been predominantly a ML collector butt the offering have either been crappy or few and far between recently.
Superman Red (Chase) DC Universe Classics (Mattel) - Wave 2 Rated 4.70 stars by Henchmen4Hire No greater joy comes to a customizer than when seeing a new and improved "Blank" figure go on sale. A "Blank" figure is a figure that has zero to very minimal sculpted details, essentially, a "naked" body from which almost any character can be made. SuperRed here is a Male Blank, and being an articulated DCSH body makes it even more useful.
Supes is about 6.25 inches tall, just like the older DCSH Superman figs. The body-sculpt is definitely subtley different. I'd waste my breath explaining the differences, it's easier to just buy the figure and compare it to the older versions of Superman yourself (it's worth it if you're a customizer). Most importantly, the legs can now close all the way for a more natural stance. There are only the essential wrinkles to indicate a suit, not nakedness....[See More]
Elessa Warlands (D-Boy Inc) - Basic Series Rated 4.00 stars by Henchmen4Hire There's a comic/anime called Warlands, and when I saw the characters they looked a lot like the characters from the Lodoss War anime. Apparently they have something important in common, but I didn't follow-up on it because I just like the toys, never saw the animes much :] Not finding a Deedlit figure from the Lodoss War series I could be happy with, I settled on Elessa here from Warlands. Just wanted to harvest her for parts, but looks like I can't use her for what I need...
Elessa is 6-inches tall, and those long legs make her look a lot taller. It's a very anime-ish figure as you can see, weird proportions, but it looks great anyway. The clothing is lavender with silver/white trim, and like the rest of the figure, there's a half-hearted attempt at dry-brushing. I love the head on this...[See More]
Iron Man (Mark III) Iron Man - 2008 Movie (Hasbro) - Basic Series Rated 4.00 stars by Henchmen4Hire Not being a huge fan of Iron Man, I wasn't looking forward to these figures, but I thought they'd make good fodder for customs, and turns-out they are, but they are also pretty cool figures. They don't give-off that cheap plasticky vibe like most of Hasbro's stuff, but they are far from perfect. There are some little things that bug me.
Iron Man stands 6.25 inches tall. I'm not kidding. All the bitching and moaning you've been hearing about him being too small is all a bunch of hot air. He's fine, well worth buying at retail price. And don't worry, this figure is going to be everywhere in a week or two, don't spend 50 bucks online for it. The armor-design isn't bland, but the paint-job is kinda iffy. It looks like he was painted with nail-polish. There are areas where there are dark...[See More]
I picked up this one last night and got him opened up this morning. In comparrison with both the Stealth Ops and the Mark 2, I''m actually quite disappointed in this figure. Well, not the figure itself, because it is of course the same figure as the Mark 2, the Stealth Ops, and the Silver Centurion, but the paint applications. In the whole rack I went through there wasn''t a single one that had a clean application of the red. The gold and silver, yes, but not the red. Poor old Iron Man looks like somebody went through and gave him paint touch ups with some pink paint. (Specifically bad points being his right foot, both hands, left thigh, and right side of his abdomen area) Popping off the head and looking at the ball joint (which is left unpainted shows that it looks to be a missed coat of paint. the grey/silver plastic, the pinkish underbase, then the semi-transpartent darker red coat.) Yeah, I know, if I want perfection, do it myself, It''d just be nice if he wasn''t pink :-)
...I left my Iron Man by the window and it started turning pink! NOES!
Donna Troy Wonder Woman (DC Direct) - Series 1 Rated 5.00 stars by Henchmen4Hire Impulse buying is always fun, and I rarely regret doing it, Donna here is a perfect example why. She's gorgeous! I'm not going to pretend I knew who she was, I've only read 2 comics from the current Wonder Woman series and one of them had giant talking albino monkeys with laser-guns, so I dropped that acid trip pretty fast. This figure is worth getting no matter what you do or don't read. It's impressive, plain and simple, it stands-out on the pegs among the dozens of Batmans, she's like the cool chick at a party and you know you'll regret it the rest of your life if you don't pick her up.
Donna stands about 6.5 inches, the lush voluminous hair pushes her height to 7 inches (I don't count hair as height by the way). She is cosmetically flawless; absolutely no blotchy-paint, very light...[See More]
Definitely, also the detailed pieces need to be redone because they''re a little sloppy in places and my scrutinizing eye bleeds when I see the little flaws :P On a sucky note, my air-brush hose just decided to give me the finger, it popped when I was using it. Maybe a little tape will fix it
Metamorpho, the Element Man [Collect & Connect] DC Universe Classics (Mattel) - Wave 1 Rated 4.50 stars by Henchmen4Hire Element Man? More like, ele-PHANT man! Gahahahaha! It was a joke that had to be made, you understand.
Rex Mason stands a bit over 6.25 inches. I don't have the mud-leg accessory so I'm not sure how high he gets with it, "pretty high" sounds about right. The left leg falls-off a lot, it doesn't swivel smoothly so anytime you try to move it it pops-off. Is this problem present in all of these figures? The rest of the body-parts snap together securely. The paint-job is good for the most part, I'm not liking the neon-orange his right arm is made of though (it's not painted). It's supposed to be molten rock but it's bland and ugly when compared to the the lava-fist accessory. The large hammer-fist is light-weight so it won't weigh-down the arm, all the accessories "snap-on" so they are...[See More]
hey, try dipping it in a bit of hot glue before popping it back on next time. i here that works pretty well.
Conan / Wrarrl Legendary Comic Book Heroes (Marvel Toys) - 2-Packs Rated 5.00 stars by Henchmen4Hire [This is for Wrarrl]
This monster is over 7.25 inches of ugly, and you can see every bit of it because the helmet is removable! He looks like a scorched purple pumpkin with a huge grin on its face under there, it's hysterical at first but it gets creepy when you're in the house alone with that thing staring at you, mocking you with those glowing-red eyes. The detail is phenomenal all over this figure! There are scratches, dings, and dents everywhere, the clothing is finely textured and the decent gray-on-black dry-brushing brings-out all those wrinkles and cuts. The armor looks like Ringwraith armor only it's actually articulated! The cape isn't very flexible but it's still impressive. The sword Wrarrl has is one of the best I've seen, the whole thing looks like real metal! The blade is...[See More]
