Prior to his needless death in ASM 600, Flash Thompson had recently adopted the moniker of Anti Venom, with the original Venom symbiote finally returning to Eddie Brock. I liked this change, since it allowed me to have Eddie in his classic Venom look, Antivenom, and Flash Thompson all without having anyone needlessly duplicated on my shelf. And so I bought the original Agent Venom Walgreens exclusive, expecting a pretty straightforward repaint. Boy was I wrong. Even ignoring the alterations I made for the sake of my own preferences (ex. Agent Antivenom has weird silver bits I felt we're pretty needless and thus didn't bother including them) I still ended up having to cut off an entire section of the belt, and smooth down every section of flashes armor using a combination of Dremel and and obscene amount of sanding to give Flash the sleek appearance he had in the comics. This was also my first attempt at using a sprayed on base coat which, while unquestionably easier than hand painting, was made more complicated due to the way Hasbro designed that stupid football armor. The rest is pretty much hand painted, the symbol being sketched out in fine tip marker first then filled in with paint first. I didn't bother with that same level of care on the back and just did it all with a paintbrush, since I'll hardly ever see the back and it does look good enough. Coated the whole thing with a gloss coat... Which I know is USUALLY frowned on, but in this case I think it added a nice liquid look to Flashes outfit. ![]() |
