The basis of this 1/16 scale figure was a Japanese plastic kit by Marui of a robot called Battler-G. The kit, which dated back to the mid ‘70s, came with alternate parts, including heads and weapon hands. One of the optional heads was that of a mechanical bird, which I found more interesting that the standard robot noggin. Only I didn’t want the bird head to be metal, so I carefully sanded off all the sharp edges and angles to make it as natural looking as possible. I didn’t like the weapon hands at all – I think one was a saw blade – so I replaced them with a pair from an Aurora Funny Car Driver. The space helmet was totally my idea and was made from a large vending machine capsule. One half had to be carefully cut to fit on the shoulders, while the clear half had to be sanded and polished out to eliminate a few mold marks. Originally, the back pack was a missile launcher for some Mego Micronauts. The devise on the ground was also made from Micronaut parts. Completed in 1983. ![]() |
