Had this idea after I saw BlackDynamiteJr's custom venom and ]-[ijACKER's tutorial on youtube. I wanted to do this because 1. The toybiz legs work extremely well and look great with the marvel select venom and 2. I would also get much MUCH better legs for poses. Before I added the legs I modified the neck and diaphragm joint to actually be usable by cutting away plastic with an exacto knife. Now there is MUCH better range in the neck and torso. Then I wanted to attach the torso but I wanted to absolutely retain the waist swivel. I did this by cracking open the toybiz waist and using a screw anchor. I cut the round tip a bit, put super glue on it,inserted it into one half of the waist, attached the legs back, and glued the torso back together. Then I filled up the small space in the hole in the waist with hot glue so it wouldn't wiggle around. The main swivel will be in the marvel select torso where it's slightly loose. Then I attached a bit of duct tape around the tip sticking out and found that an eye drop cap of all things for those little eye drop vials to fit in the marvel select torso VERY nicely when cut and trimmed a bit. I put super glue in the cap and attached it to the tip of the screw anchor that was covered with duct tape. This way when plugged in, the waist will be secure, tight, and will swivel nicely. I could've used small magnets and make this whole process way easier, but I didn't have any on me at the time and when I ordered some they were way too big so I had to think out of the box. Needlessly complicated? Yes. Does it work though? It works very well! Guess you have to think out of the box at times. Leaves a small gap when somewhat leaned but it's a small tradeoff and the gap is gone when posed. After that, I painted the last bit of the symbiote logo. I could've attached the toybiz arms and I have done that before on my original marvel select venom but the hands always fell out and it looked extremely awkward when the fist and open hands were attached because of how small they were in comparison with the arms. So I left the original marvel select arms in. They still look really good proportionally imo. Might resculpt them to be a bit bigger though when I get the chance. I also decided to repaint the heads a bit. I repainted the tongues mainly and added a bit more detail on the Mcfarlane head. I repainted the tongues by adding a base pink color, added a metallic black wash, painted with green (yellow on the disney store head), and another small bit of pink. The tongues and heads look way more detailed and I'm very happy with it. Now venom is way more in scale with my collection and with the repainted heads, he looks way more creepy and detailed. He's also extremely fun to pose around! Please wait... |
