Ma-Ti was raised by Kayapo Indians in the Amazon basin of South America. Twelve years old, he is the youngest Planeteer, and is the closest in the group to Gaia, the spirit of the earth. Ma-Ti is a friend to all animals, and even has a pet spider monkey named Suchi.

Ma-Ti's element is heart, enabling him to communicate telepathically with the other Planeteers and to hear cries for help from anywhere on earth. He is very sensitive to evil thoughts which can sometimes overpower him and prevent him from communicating telepathically.
