Jean-Luc Picard was born in LaBarre, France, on Planet Earth in the year 2305. As a first-year cadet, Picard became the only freshman to win the Starfleet Academy marathon on Danula II. After graduating from Starfleet Academy in 2327, he was critically injured by three Nausicaans while on leave, and received an artificial heart. Lt. Picard was a bridge officer on the U.S.S. Stargazer when the ship's captain was killed, and took command. Picard captained the Stargazer for nearly 20 years, until it was nearly destroyed by a Ferengi attack near the Maxia Zeta system. In the year 2363, Picard was named captain of the fifth starship to bear the name Enterprise.
