Lieutenant Worf, on an authorized visit to the Space Station Deep Space Nine, discovered that his father, Mogh, might still be alive. A mercenary informant, a Shrek, relayed this information that Mogh, along with other Klingon Warriors, had been captured and sent to a Romulan prison colony after the Khitomer Massacre. Worf had long dismissed the possibility that his father was alive, opting to believe that his father would conform to Klingon code and be killed rather than taken prisoner. In a mission to rescue his fellow imprisoned Klingons, Worf arranged passage from the Space Station into Romulan space, where he was transported to the prison colony. Once on the planet, Worf discovered Klingons living together in peaceful co-existence with their Romulan captors. He also found that his father was indeed dead. Worf rekindled a sense of Klingon heritage and pride in the prisoners of war, inciting them to rebel against their Romulan captors, eventually causing the dissolution of the colony.
